As a result of our advocacy, the Ontario Court of Appeal unanimously overturned a judgment against our client. Our client, one of the shareholders in a British Columbia distribution company, was sued personally for the debts of his company, which had gone out of business. The claimant was the company’s main product supplier, which claimed that under a written credit arrangement, our client had agreed to be personally responsible for the company’s debts of nearly $100,000. Before our firm was retained, the trial judge agreed with the supplier and awarded a judgment against our client. Our client then turned to our firm to appeal the trial judge’s decision. As a result of our success in the Court of Appeal, our client has a $100,000 weight lifted from his shoulders and also recovered part of his legal expenses.
